Why I wrote When the Wife Cheats
My life exploded when my wife of twenty-four plus years left our family leaving me as a single and custodial parent of two teenage daughters. I left an industry that I loved and had brought me great success to buy a small business so I could make a living and be home to raise my children.
As the word about the affair and pending divorce made its way around our community, a strange thing happened; male friends and acquaintances told me how sorry they were and shared similar experiences. I was very surprised. I had no idea so many men had been victimized by infidelity. Family counselors, social workers and sociology professors told me that a woman walking away from her family is a relatively new development. I was told this is the first generation in the U.S. where the wife/mother abandons the family. They quickly added there is little to no research on the impact this behavior will have on children, particularly daughters. I was told there is very little data because men won't talk!! The counselors stressed that writing the book or at least keeping a family journal would help validate the range of emotions my daughters were experiencing. I first asked my daughters if they would be Okay if I wrote this book. To my surprize, they wanted the book written saying it would help them achieve some level of closure.
As I heard more stories, I decided to write this book about infidelity from the man’s perspective. It is based on actual situations told to me by many men faced with the devastation of their wives’ infidelity. Their stories and mine were woven into one story. All the characters are Fictional.
